Storyplayer Activities

Storyplayer Activities:

If you’re interested, you can use Tree of Light for interactive storytelling. Here are some activities you can choose from, depending on the mood.

We recommend reading the book at least once with readers before doing any Storyplayer Activities.

Feel free to modify Storyplayer Activities to work well with you and your Storyplayers.

THREE BEES:

There are 3 bees on every page spread. Can kids find the bees?

BREATHE LIKE A TREE OF LIGHT:

Storyplayers can take long, slow breaths when Aaa’Lee does, and whenever they want to relax, get clarity, meditate, be present, deal with a challenge, fall asleep and anytime they feel like it.

CHIRP WITH THE BLUE BIRD:

Storyplayers can be the voice of Indigo. Every time the word “chirped ” is read, anyone can say: “Sweet-sweet, chew-chew, sweet-sweet.” It can be helpful to practice this a few times before reading the story.

If you are interested, you can give your Storyplayers a helpful cue to know when it’s time to chirp:

  • You can make the letter C with your hand.
  • You can also use this printable sign to hold up whenever you want to cue the Storyplayers to chirp. (Helpful for Teachers and when reading to more than one child.)
  • If Storyplayers are enjoying chirping, feel free to cue them to chirp when you think it would work well.

MOVING / ACTING:

Storyplayers can move with or act any of Aaa’Lee’s actions that they are in the mood to do. It is recommended that you read the story at least two times with readers before encouraging this activity. If there is not a safe space for a child to easily fly, spin and twirl, encourage the Storyplayers to act out the story while seated. They can sit with their legs crossed or another planted position that they can safety move like a tree from. If the Storyplayers want to act out the scene where Aaa’Lee’s branch gets hurt, encourage them to keep their arm straight and gently bend their fingers down or some other comfortable position.
